Welcome to the December Escape Party - the blog hop of Escape Publishing's December release authors - known collectively as Escape Artists!

It's set just after Christmas, and I know that's going to be weird for any of you northern hemispherites (yes I know that's not a real word) who have Dickensian-style snowy Christmasses. Can you imagine spending Christmas Day around the pool, with a barbecue for Christmas dinner? Or taking the Christmas tree to the beach, baubles and all? Actually lots of us celebrate Yule at midwinter, June 21st, which feels much more like a traditional northern hemisphere Christmas. Our December Christmas is more like a midsummer party, with the sun setting late, ice cream for dessert and the air conditioning on!

I live in Ohio. The weather can be anything on Christmas. It's sorta cold right now highs in the 40's and it's gloomy and rainy. A white Christmas is so pretty just as long as it doesn't snow on the roads. We've had snow on Christmas before, it just didn't snow on the 25th, it was from what had already fallen. One year it was so cold, I thought the plastic on my coat was going to crack. It was -20. That's dang cold.

-20, jeez! I used to live in the UK and occasionally we'd get colder temperatures, but never anything like that! I hope you have a lovely white (but not too cold) Christmas this year :-)

I live in the mountains in Germany. So there is a lot of snow and temperatures hover at around -10 to -15C. Santa needs a thick warm coat here! :)

I was actually born in Germany, in a little town called Rinteln, somewhere near Munich I think. Dad was in the British army. Wrap up warm this winter!

Christmas in Sydney is usually hot and sticky, which means lounging around after Christmas lunch is even more imperative!

We were just talking about this at work today! The majority vote was they'd appreciate a warm Christmas. Of course, I live up north, so that'd be really novel for all of us.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I like the idea of it, or maybe I'd want to experience it once, but I'm attached to the white Christmas. Although I'm picky ;D I want a white Christmas, and then for the snow to all melt and clear in the next few days.
Sadly, Mother Nature doesn't comply.
Yes it would be nice if we could order the snow and then have someone pick it all up when it's time to go to work! Hope you have a pleasant dusting for the day :-)

Here in Texas its a crap shoot on what you get. just two days ago it was almost 80. now it is supposed to be 32 tonight. We've worn shorts at Christmas some years and others coats, it keeps you guessing. Thanks for the post and introduction to the Escape books. lisagk(at)yahoo(dot)com

I grew up in Uruguay, so I'm used to having bbqs for Christmas! I usually go back for a visit over the holidays, as well, so I've had just the one white Christmas since I've lived in England. I chose that one well, though, it was a year where it actually did snow!
ReplyDeleteYes I used to live in the UK and white Christmases were so rare. We lived in hope of the Dickensian perfect Christmas every year and hardly ever got it! Hope you get a dusting this year!
